Many people think books are written about famous or important people.

Most of us are not famous but in God’s eyes, every person is special to Him. This is the story of one such person.

I am not famous. I am one of the co-owners of Polar Café or better known now as Polar Puffs & Cakes which has been in the pastry scene in Singapore for more than eighty years.

This is my story.

Many people think books are written about famous or important people. Most of us are not famous but in God’s eyes, every person is special to Him. This is the story of one such person.

I am not famous. I am one of the co-owners of a business in Singapore. The Polar Café or better known now as Polar Puffs & Cakes. As part of the pastry scene in Singapore for more than eighty years, the café has become something of an institution. Sweet memories indeed span three generations.

Polar began humbly as a small café located at 51 High Street, just accross the road from the Supreme Court. It was said that its famed curry puffs were regarded as almost obligatory items at teatime in the Members Room of Parliament House until the original café was demolished to make way for the new Parliament House. Many Singaporeans may be aware of the hard work and good business sens that has made Polar Café the success story that it is today, but few know that it is God who is the true architect of its success.

I write this book in the hope that you will get an insight into how God, in His faithfulness and unlimited graciousness has been taking care of us through thick and thin. From Polar Café’s humble beginnings in 1926 when my father first started it until today, God has never failed to provide our every need – food for the table, a roof over our heads, and education for our children. These have been made possible through the success of this business, by God’s grace.

You will meet many ordinary people who would not think for a moment that their lives are worth writing about — my parents, siblings, relatives, friends, acquaintances, and strangers. They have all made my story extraordinary because it is through their lives that we see the reality and wonder of God.

As we celebrate Polar Café’s 80 years in business, we want to publicly thank our customers for their loyalty and support in making Polar Café an icon and a household name in Singapore.
